Maldives Foreign Minister On India: Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid, who came on a visit to India, told on Wednesday (July 12) how India helped his country during the Corona period. He praised India fiercely.

During a conversation with news agency ANI, Abdullah Shahid said, “We import everything, including food supplies and medicines.” He said that India came to our rescue.

Abdullah Shahid said, “There was a lockdown in India during the Kovid 19 pandemic but the Indian Air Force ensured that essential food items and medicines were collected from five different places in the country and delivered to Male.”

Maldives tourism industry revived with India’s help

He said, “Maldives are completely dependent on tourism. When External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar came to Maldives, he offered us Bubble Travel Management, through which we were able to safely invite Indians to Maldives and revive our tourism industry.”

What did Abdullah Shahid say about India-Maldives relations?

On Tuesday (July 11), Abdullah Shahid met Foreign Minister S Jaishankar in Delhi. Abdulla Shahid, at the 43rd Sapru House Lecture in Delhi, said that Maldives seeks to develop and maintain strategic and mutually beneficial ties.

He had said that this would enable him to contribute to efforts to maintain order in the Indian Ocean. Abdullah Shahid said, ‘‘India is an important partner in this regard. The first thing that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih did after taking office was to become the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. PM Modi was present at the swearing-in ceremony of the President in November 2018.’’
